Meet the Maker

I am Randy and I am the designer and maker of North of 55 Leather.
How it Started
After retiring from my career in 2017, I spent a few years enjoying a slower pace of life — until I found myself looking for something creative to dive into. In early 2021, in my garage at Paint Lake, Manitoba, I discovered my passion for leather-craft.
What started as making pieces for myself soon turned into creating gifts for family and friends. Before long, word spread and I began selling my work through social media. The response was incredibly encouraging and pushed me to keep going.
The Move South
In 2022, my wife and I decided to move south to Morden, Manitoba, where her family lives. Once we were settled, I set up shop again and continued crafting and selling online. Eventually, I began attending local markets — and what started as a hobby has grown into what feels like a near full-time job.
Why I Love What I Do
I truly love designing and making leather products. Until recently, every piece was entirely hand stitched, a process I found both rewarding and relaxing. Meeting customers face-to-face at markets, sharing stories, and seeing people connect with my work has become one of my favorite parts of this journey.
My favourite pieces to make are wallets. I still hand stitch every wallet I make. Wallets require a lot of time and precision work. After wallets I really enjoy designing a bag and then seeing it come to life.
Thank you for supporting handmade and for being part of my story.
